Incorporated March 11, 1971, with a population of 2,284, the town has enjoyed a steady growth to its current populaton of approximately 22,000 persons. The town, following tradition established when theMint Hill community was first settled in 1750, has tremendous community spirit and pride. Within the town are many churches and excellent schools. Also, there are recreational facilities including private and public golf courses and country clubs. Primariy a residential community, the business district has shown intensified development in recent years with approximately 285 businesses and professional services available.
Mint Hill and Idewild Volunteer Fire Department provide this community with fire protection and paramedic emergency ambulance service. These departments are rated among the highest in the State. Mint Hill welcomed their own Police Department under Police Chief Brian Barnhardt on July 1, 2003.
A nonpartisan mayor and board of commmissioners, elected at large-biannually, govern the Town. They hold regualr meetings at the Town Hall on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Also, there is a planning board, board of adjustment and park and recreation commmittee, each meeting monthly. The public is encouraged to attend these meetings.
